This is The Tailored House in West London, which has recently been completed by a young firm of architects called Liddicoat & Goldhill. It has five bedrooms and is on the market for £2,625,000 via The Modern House.

It’s a detached house, which already makes it unusual for London, and was given its name as, according to the architects: “The clients drew an analogy between their new house and a tailored suit – recognisable, elegant and simple when viewed as a whole, but revealing individuality and material opulence in detail.”

And I have to agree. There are lots of cool details that you could bring into your own home. Take that cupboard in the two images above that slides across to be completely hidden. As well as the concrete floor and exposed bricks which contrast beautifully with the richness of that wood.

I do love those Vegetal chairs by Philippe Starck for Kartell too, although I have heard tell that they are not as comfortable as they are pretty. Still might be part of the whole no pain no gain theory….I’m also quite keen on that built-in draining board too. It’s a very functional island which is great if you don’t have to, or don’t want to, use it as an extra eating space.

The sitting room is, for me at least, the least interesting of the rooms but I do like the clever use of wallpaper on the sliding doors in the bedroom below which glide back to reveal and hidden en suite. The paper is by Timorous Beasties and comes in several colourways. It costs £300 a roll but it really finishes off this room beautifully.

What do you think? Have you got any clever design tricks in your home?
